Timeline Photos

Meet Blue Ocean Fellow Demian Chapman, a globally known shark expert who helps small island nations strengthen their ability to identify illegal fishing and enforce recently established shark sanctuaries. Chapman’s research expertise in molecular biology and telemetry tracking has focused on how shark and rays reproduce and travel. Dr. Chapman is an assistant professor in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University. In this pic, he's taking a DNA sample from a nearly 15-foot blunt nose, six-gill shark in the Bahamas. Photo: Sean Williams, Cape Eleuthera Institute.
